Driver's License Requirements

The main driver and any additional drivers must provide a full physical driving licence with no major endorsements. The license should be held for at least 1-2 year(s).

For foreign renters, you need to bring:

Sri Lankan Temporary Driving Permit

If you only have the local license from the country of your domicile, the car dealer can accompany you to go to DMT (Department of Motor Traffic) to obtain a Temporary Driving Permit. The cost is about 50 EUR and it's subject to the local charge standard.(Please note this process will take a couple of hours and the DMT office is open only on Mon - Fri from 8.30 am till 3.30 pm.)

Original driving licence + International Driving Permit (IDP)

Please note that an International Driving Permit(IDP) is only a translation and you must present your original driving licence at the counter.

First of all, I chose a Nissan model, but when I picked up the car, there were no Nissan vehicles available; instead, they gave me a Malaysian brand car with poor performance. Secondly, there were extra charges. When returning the car, there was a minor scratch on the fender. The staff assured me the repair cost would be 5000 Sri Lankan Rupees, but they actually charged a 49000 Rupee deposit for the repairs, which was not refunded.
