Make sure to plan your trip and the pick-up/drop-off locations in advance. If you want to make any last-minute changes, like we considered returning the car in Nice or Cannes instead of Marseille, the additional fees can be quite high compared to the rental cost. The entire process of picking up and returning the car is fully self-service, with no one to guide you or check the car for damages on the spot, which felt good. We drove through many mountain roads in the South of France and recommend renting a more powerful car for similar routes. Climbing steep hills was a bit challenging, although doable. Be aware that the South of France is full of high mountains, cliffs, steep hills, and sharp turns.
