This was our first time renting a car abroad. We picked up and returned the car on July 13th, assisted by a friendly young man whose name we didn't catch. His service was friendly and efficient, and the procedures were simple, which eased some of our concerns. Especially when returning the car, we just refueled it, did a basic clean-up, and handed the keys to the young man to complete the process. The procedures were quite easy, and we were very satisfied.

There was no one at the front desk for a long time. We booked a Skoda Wagon due to having many suitcases but it was replaced with a RAV4. The car key battery was dead, causing multiple instances where we couldn't unlock the door or start the car, forcing us to unlock manually.

Service personnalisé auprès de Budget. La personne au comptoir était prête avec nos documents et les formalités ont été effectuées très rapidement. Terrible, terrible, terrible! First, the car pick-up location was changed without any notification from the rental company, making us wander in the cold for half an hour. The new location was very hard to find! We almost missed our car because of this! Second, the car given to us had a wet interior with many water stains on the floor, and it didn't match the model we booked. The trunk was too small to fit our three 28-inch suitcases, causing us a lot of trouble every day trying to rearrange them! Third, we had an early ferry at 7 AM on the last day from Lofoten to Bodo, and needed to rush to catch our flight after returning the car. To be safe, we filled up the tank at a nearby station the day before and didn't drive anywhere else. It took just five minutes to reach the ferry terminal from the hotel and about seven to eight minutes to get to the car return point from the ferry in Bodo. When we returned the car, we confirmed the fuel gauge still showed full. Yet, we were charged a ridiculous fee for not returning the car with a full tank… 1199 for a supposedly incomplete fill-up? That’s outrageous! What a lousy rental experience! Terrible!

1. We booked a 5-seater Land Cruiser on the QEEQ website, but the actual store only had a 2-seater Cruiser, which couldn't accommodate our group of four. We then switched to an XC70 model, but due to either unclear communication from the staff or our misunderstanding, we thought the 938 NOK fee was the total cost, but it was actually an additional charge. 2. On the return day, due to unavoidable circumstances (ferry from Reine to Bodo was canceled due to strong winds), we had to drive back the same way we came from Lofoten Islands. Although we tried our best to return on time, the 8-hour delay resulted in an extra day's rental fee. It is unreasonable to make us bear this cost.
