“Didn't realise pickup location was not at the airport”
About Thrifty:7.0/10
The Thrifty location at SNA airport is not actually at the airport, unlike all the other companies. It took me a long time of wandering around the airport to figure this out.
Manager at Hertz tried to fix a huge mixup that happened with my reservation,I ended up having to rent a van even though my reservation said I was going to get the 12 passenger transit..was there for a little over two hours trying to get things figured out but Dwight was able to make it work
Quite satisfied. Remember, the location is on the first floor of the airport, not the second floor, which is the departure area. I paid an extra $10 per day to get a different car.
The dashboard showed a yellow light indicating that the oil needed maintenance. I went to a nearby branch, and they told me it was fine to keep driving. After two days, the warning upgraded to an oil change required. I went to another branch near the airport on my route, and they said it was nothing serious. Driving with the yellow light on made me uneasy.
Two female customer service representatives argued that a Chinese driver's license and a certified translation were not legal. Although they eventually rented us the car after our persistence, it wasted a lot of time and energy which was very frustrating.
This Budget company is deceitful. It's not my first time renting a car in the US. Other rental companies always ask if you need additional services and highlight the final charges, requiring a customer's signature. At this company, I explicitly told the front desk I had pre-paid and didn't need additional insurance or fuel services. The staff member ignored my request, continued writing, and asked for my signature without mentioning extra charges. After picking up the car, I discovered the additional services were added, doubling my original payment, which made renting this cheap Toyota Yaris equivalent to about 400 RMB. With this amount, I could have rented a BMW from another company. The service was also terrible as the staff was unhelpful and clueless.

About AVIS:10.0/10
Great. Booking through QEEQ was affordable and required no deposit. The service was friendly, convenient, and quick without unnecessary procedures. The process for returning the car in another location was straightforward; just check the fuel gauge and leave with a full tank.

About Europcar:2.0/10
The waiting time was extremely long, at least 20 minutes! Between 10-12 AM, there was basically only one person attending. The neighboring Herz and Budget counters had at least two staff and no lines.
