About Hertz: 6.0 /10
There is a wide range of vehicles to choose from, the location of the car lot is convenient, the cars are new, and the process is fast and simple. However, be cautious as they may claim that the car you originally booked is unavailable and try to upsell you to a more expensive, luxurious model, along with unnecessary insurance and equipment. The additional insurance and equipment they offer are quite pricey. In my opinion, roads in Europe are generally good, and drivers tend to follow the rules; if you have good driving skills and are cautious, the basic insurance is usually sufficient. Dare to say 'no' to their 'enthusiasm'.

About Hertz: 2.0 /10
Before my trip, I learned from Hertz staff in Hong Kong that the actual car models available for the type I booked would only be Ford Galaxy 7 Seats and Ford Tourneo 7 Seats (the rental car reviews also only listed these two default models). On July 29, when I picked up the car at Munich Airport, the counter staff, Hofmann M., informed me that the actual car available was a smaller Ford S-Max. I immediately objected, but he insisted that the Ford S-Max was in the same category (which later proved to be untrue). Because the Ford S-Max was too small, Hofmann M. suggested that I could rent a Mercedes Benz V-class 8 seats for an additional Euro 300 without the Cross Border Fee. To avoid travel delays, I reluctantly agreed. He then printed the Rental Record for me, and after reviewing it, I questioned the last three charges (Fuel option: Euro 73.24, Location service charge: Euro 69.00, and Tax: Euro 72.82). He assured me that if I returned the car with a full tank, these charges wouldn't apply, so I signed the new Rental Record. On August 14, after returning the car, I found out from the Hertz Statement of Charges that the Location service charge: Euro 69.00 and Tax: Euro 72.82 were still charged. First, if Hertz had provided me with the Ford Galaxy or Ford Tourneo as per the contract, I wouldn't have needed to pay extra for an upgrade, which is the root of the problem. Second, if Hertz couldn't provide the booked car model and needed to upgrade, the upgrade should have been free. Third, Hofmann M. stated that only an additional Euro 300 was required and assured me that the last three charges wouldn't apply, which led to my agreement and signature. His sales tactics were basically fraudulent.

Booked a Mercedes, ended up with a Ford. There were at least two similar Mercedes parked nearby. When I asked customer service, they said it's the same grade and refused to change.

Entered the country at 6 am, had breakfast and went to pick up the car a little after 6. No need to queue, there was no one at the Hertz counter (the rental confirmation stated that Hertz counter service time is 6:00-23:59). A guy from a neighboring counter who was wearing another company's vest came to assist. Since there was no need to queue, I had no complaints.

The staff at the store were friendly, the car was relatively new and performed well. However, I originally rented an Opel or a similar model, and the store gave me a Fiat 500X. Is that in the same category? Was it an upsell? During the return, the staff mentioned a tire scratch and a tiny paint chip on a mirror. I believe these were pre-existing, as I had no incidents during my trip. Unfortunately, I didn't notice them during pick-up.

It wasn't hard to find the HERTZ counter at Munich Airport, and there weren't many customers at that time. The staff's service was attentive. However, we were surprised to find a spending trap set by HERTZ staff in Munich: On May 20th, we prepaid over a month in advance for 12 days of rental and super insurance through Zuzuche. To be extra cautious, we also bought 13 days of coverage from Worldwide Insure that included Deluxe EXCESS (covering road assistance, tires, glass, roof, and chassis). We arrived in Munich on the morning of July 6, went to the counter to handle the formalities, and provided the rental contract, pickup voucher, driver’s ID, notarized documents, and even the Worldwide Insure email confirmation and insurance policy to the staff. The service agent did not ask if we needed additional insurance. He ultimately gave us a credit card receipt totaling €641. We were unclear about the charges but asked the staff who said it was a pre-authorization and would be refunded later. So, we signed and picked up the car. After returning to our home country, we waited for the refund. Following several emails and phone negotiations, we found out the forced charges on the receipt included: 1) Estimate of charges includes Unlimited Kilometres €134.50; 2) PERS Glass & Tyre €117.00, plus a tax of €48.75, totaling €305.35. HERTZ refunded us €50 and then ignored us. The HERTZ store at Munich Airport definitely deserves a poor rating. HERTZ staff did not ask if we needed to purchase the insurance and took advantage of us not having the time to scrutinize the receipt, causing us unnecessary loss. This is a serious act of deception.
