Rented a car in Germany; previously had an accident in France and the car was towed away. The German company actively coordinated with the authorities to help us get a new car for free and continue our trip. We rented two cars, and only one had an accident. Even though the other car also had an issue when we returned, having full insurance saved us from further trouble.
The overall service of the rental company was good. However, there was a mistake when renting the car. The staff mistakenly wrote gasoline on the contract. The contract indicated to fill with 95 gasoline, so we did as instructed. However, the car was a Hyundai i30 diesel version and required diesel. Because of the incorrect fuel, the car broke down and couldn't start.
I booked a Volkswagen but ended up with an Opel after some hassle. The car's built-in GPS was very useful. Germany is really great for road trips; driving at 180 km/h felt effortless.
The booking confirmation included the following terms: if the customer purchases additional products or services at the store (such as vehicle upgrade fees, insurance fees, additional drivers, and extended rental periods), they must pay the corresponding fees and related taxes. We have no objection to this. The problem is that although there was no vehicle upgrade, no additional insurance, and no extended rental period, but only an additional driver, the taxes were not calculated based on the additional part but were recalculated on the entire amount, leading to duplicated taxes. This could either be due to an overcharge in Munich or due to Rentable Cars not providing a detailed explanation.
The store didn't even ask me and just added full coverage, charging me several times more than the rental fee. It was absurd! Later, I switched to an automatic because the manual was too hard to drive and discovered I had full coverage. Since I had bought comprehensive insurance from QEEQ, I only needed basic coverage. It took forever, but the fee was already charged. Not sure if they'll refund the difference. So frustrating!
