The next morning, I accidentally scraped the right side mirror and scratched the right side of the car while reversing in Muir Woods. I called QEEQ and they said I could return to the rental location to exchange the car. On the way back, another car turned right and scratched the left side of our car. We exchanged information as instructed by the police since the other party had insurance. The insurance company took care of the claim, so we didn't have to pay anything on the spot. When we returned to the rental center to exchange the car, the staff reassured us that our insurance covered everything. They just needed us to fill out the checklist, so no personal on-site compensation was needed. They then quickly gave us another car of the same level (Ford SE) without any cumbersome procedures, allowing us to continue our journey swiftly. However, before picking up the car, the rental center staff spent half an hour trying to upsell us. They recommended upgrading, claiming our current model was the worst. They mentioned the upgraded models had USB ports, backup cameras, higher horsepower, and better fuel efficiency. When we asked if our current model had USB and a backup camera, they were unclear. They also pushed for FasTrak toll cards and extra insurance until we clearly stated we had full coverage. Only then did they complete our paperwork, allowing us to finally get the car.

Friendly reception

They added extra insurance, claiming it's required by law. Is that true?

The Jeep I reserved was unavailable, so they gave me a Hyundai Santa Fe. Despite having paid over two thousand yuan on the website, I was charged an additional thousand-plus yuan at the store for some unclear fee (not insurance). Since I was in a hurry, I didn't question it.

The counter staff pushed personal insurance and intentionally recommended a smaller car model.
