1. When refueling, you need a PIN for your credit card, which is usually the cash advance PIN. It's recommended to have more than one credit card just in case.
2. The car rental counter was straightforward. After informing them that we had purchased full insurance, they didn't try to sell us any additional insurance.
3. When entering the highway near Cinque Terre, we couldn't get a ticket at the entrance. We pressed the call button, but couldn't understand the response. Eventually, the barrier opened, and we explained at the exit where we had entered to calculate the toll.
4. For manual cars, to engage reverse, you need to pull up the ring on the gear stick. It takes some time to get used to.
5. In Italy, buses don't sell tickets onboard! It's best to buy your ticket at a nearby shop before boarding. The driver only drives; it's your responsibility to validate your ticket using a card reader onboard. If one reader doesn't work, try another one at the front or back. If you still can't validate your ticket, don't leave the card reader until the next stop. Otherwise, ticket inspectors will fine you 124 euros each. Note that their card readers will work for validation. I witnessed tourists being fined! Again, the driver won’t sell or validate tickets; it's your job to make sure your card is validated.
