Due to a flight delay, we arrived at the rental store very late and there was no line. The car we got was the same model we booked, without any free upgrade. They tried to sell us insurance, but because QEEQ had reminded me via email beforehand, I insisted on not taking those extra insurances. One thing I didn't understand is why renting the Epass through the company costs $19 per day, while at other companies it was only $3-5 per day. Therefore, I didn't rent it, which was a bit inconvenient. Additionally, the vehicle wasn't very new, and the trunk wouldn't close properly. Returning the car was simple and quick, overall it was satisfactory.
At the car rental spot next to NEWARK airport, we arrived around noon, and there were about 10 other customers waiting. With few staff members available, it took over an hour before our turn to process the rental.
They kept pushing various types of insurance. In the end, I had no choice but to buy the $7 per day roadside assistance. They gave me a Kia SUV with Texas plates, which was covered in scratches. However, Dollar didn't seem to care about the scratches when I returned the car; they just checked if the gas tank was full. Additionally, the performance of this Korean car is really subpar, especially on the highway.
They kept pushing insurance and various additional services. When we didn't accept, they rudely gave us a Nissan, which was smaller than the model we reserved. The promised free additional driver was not included either, so we had only one driver for four days. Very dissatisfied, will never rent from this company again.
They kept pushing insurance sales. I had to insist on signing before they stopped. They told me my Visa card couldn't be processed, causing me to call the Bank of China, then later said it worked. They asked if I wanted a Nissan or Mazda 2. I asked for the Nissan but got the Mazda 2 with over 40,000 miles. When returning the car, I had half a tank of gas, but they claimed I had only a quarter. The parking lot had fueling equipment but no service. Because I didn't return it with a full tank, they wanted to charge me $109. I had to drive to a gas station and filled up $8 of gas (including $1 tip) to avoid the charge.
It was okay. Initially, they gave us the wrong set of car keys. We don't speak much English, so when we tried to inform the guard about the car condition (warning messages and scratches), we realized we had the wrong car. We went back to the counter and got a new set of keys. However, the car had some scratches and after driving about three hundred miles, it prompted a maintenance oil change. Although it didn't affect the driving, it made the display inconvenient.
The rental costs are not explained clearly, the charges are ambiguous, and they couldn't provide the specific model I requested. The parking lot had no good cars and did not match what I saw on the website.
It's okay, the service is decent. However, the rental company never provides navigation addresses for picking up and dropping off the car. They only provide vague locations like 'some store.' I booked a Ford but was given a Nissan.
Dollar is good. The staff is very professional. They mentioned a $4 tax when picking up the car. Make sure to inspect the car once you get it; if you're not satisfied, you can request a different one.
Overall pretty good. But it was dark and raining heavily when I picked up the car, so it was a bit rushed. The staff only asked if I wanted to buy the highway toll for 180 dollars, which I agreed to without carefully checking the receipt. The next day, I found out there was an extra 300 dollars for insurance. Careless! But later I thought, full insurance is not a bad idea. Still, Dollar should have asked. Also a reminder for renters to pay attention themselves.
The car rental process at Dollar in Newark Airport was quite convenient. The staff did not heavily promote insurance. Since we picked up the car at night and it was raining, there were no staff on site. When someone did show up, they just pointed to the cars in the distance and let us choose one ourselves. Luckily, the SUV we picked was in good condition.
