A vehicle can be driven across the Canadian border at any time, no matter what location it was rented from. It is recommended to have PERS coverage when using vehicle in cross border rentals for the US and Canada. The renter must have a valid driver's license and rental record to cross the border into Canada. Canadian law does require that everyone entering the country have a passport, so everyone in the vehicle must have the proper identification. The wait to get the vehicle was long, over 45 mins. but the process of getting the car was quick. The vehicle was perfect for our trip as it was a Golf trip and needed all the extra space for gear. Drop off was quick and easy.

The entire rental process was quite smooth, and the return was very fast. Overall, Thrifty is considered a lower-end rental company in the U.S. The vehicles are not very new. During the rental, the staff will try to recommend various insurances and vehicle upgrades.

The queue for picking up the car was long. When it was finally my turn, they aggressively tried to sell insurance. After refusing, they deliberately delayed the process and refused to give me a four-wheel-drive vehicle, claiming that their branch does not have Jeep Compass or similar models with four-wheel-drive. This ruined my plans to go to the Mauna Kea summit to watch the sunset, as I was only able to reach the visitor center because my vehicle didn't pass the inspection for summit access.

Overall, I was very satisfied with the service. At pickup, I just said I have extra insurance covered and I will return with a full tank of gas, and the staff didn't try to upsell anything. I only rented the car for one day to go up the mountain for stargazing, but I should have rented it for a few more days because the small car I got later couldn't handle the green sand beach.

They provided a spacious car, which was very comfortable. This car accompanied us for the longest time, traveling from San Francisco to Los Angeles. We rented it for twenty days, and no issues occurred. The car was also very new.
