The car pickup process was average and somewhat rigid. They immediately laid down three major rules about driving in Taiwan, which felt quite blunt. Then they complained about the poor manners of some previous mainland Chinese customers, which had caused them losses. This was their reason for not having full-tank returns. I was given a Toyota with the fuel light on, despite being promised a Nissan. No mention of changing the car model. Also, I was told that mainland Chinese customers wouldn't be able to use the onboard navigation because of pinyin. I didn't buy it and eventually figured out handwriting input myself. The dropoff process with the lady was much better, very friendly and talkative. Overall, it wasn't bad.
PONY was, hands-down, the best rental car experience we've ever had! Their level of service goes above and beyond: privately picking us up and dropping us off to hotels and the airport, providing car chargers, and providing all the right information to drive safely in Taiwan. Highly recommend to anyone traveling to Taiwan - it made our road trip experience the best it could possibly be.
The Taiwanese staff were very nice and professional. Our car broke down halfway, and even though it was after business hours, they quickly contacted a repair shop and solved the problem.
I have two complaints:
1. The rental company didn't provide a full-to-full fuel policy as mentioned on the official site. If you want to pick up the car with a full tank, you have to pay for the entire tank of gas. Although you don't need to return it with a full tank, you usually end up with a lot of leftover fuel, which is somewhat unfair to consumers.
2. I didn't use Sesame Credit as a guarantee, so the rental deposit was taken in cash—yes, you read that right, not a credit card hold, but cash paid via WeChat to the rental company's representative. This deposit is refunded only three months after the car is returned (if there are no traffic violations), which poses a financial risk for customers.
I wonder if this is common practice in Taiwan or if it was just my experience.
“Convenient to get confirmation in advance of the trip.”
About Gipin Car:10.0/10
The deposit was actually billed and paid. Had to wait 60 days for the refund process to start. The deposit was more than the actual rental of the vehicle...

Convenient and easy comparison between rentals. Good price when stacked with discount vouchers
Overall, the car rental experience in Taiwan was quite satisfactory. However, there was an incident in Douliu, Yunlin County, where our car was maliciously scratched at the hotel. Despite our attempts to resolve the issue with the hotel, we had to take responsibility and cover the costs after contacting the rental company. In the end, the 2000 RMB deposit was not refunded, which was disappointing. The rental company should have insurance coverage for such damages not caused by the customer. Since we had purchased full insurance, the company should consider offering additional options like scratch insurance during the rental process.
Making the call was a bit confusing as we didn't know which no to skip. Only dial last 8 no. if using public phone. Waited ard 15 min for pick up due to traffic jam. Wait outside at no. 18 and look for staff wearing the IWS blue yellow T-shirt.
Getting and returning car was very fast, car is new. Staff brought us back to airport with our hired car.
They did a great job picking us up at the airport by pillar 18 and the return was very smooth. The car was in excellent condition and driving in Taiwan was much easier than the past.
The rental store is old and gives an unprofessional feeling. They require a cash deposit for violations, and credit card pre-authorization is not accepted, plus they hold the deposit for two months. I've never heard of such a thing.
