When picking up the car, the staff told me that they didn’t have the C-class I reserved, but only the E-class, which would cost an additional 91 euros. I confirmed multiple times whether it was 91 euros per day or in total, and they assured me it was a total of 91 euros. However, when returning the car, I was charged over 300 euros because it was actually 91 euros per day. There was no place to dispute this, and I felt cheated! There will be no next time.
1. We booked for August 20th at 10:00 AM, arrived at the Avis store at 1:30 PM, and were informed that our reserved Benz C series was unavailable. After negotiating, we were given a Benz E series, and the total price skyrocketed from EUR 671.58 to EUR 1267. Admittedly, we were late, but Avis gave no notification or confirmation. Avis's response was that our reservation was made through a third-party site, and they couldn't contact us. As customers of the third-party (zuzuche), it felt quite disregarded. Despite no order cancellation, we were still forced to upgrade. Just a heads up: timeliness is crucial when picking up a rental car, not exceeding the booked time by more than 2 hours. Also, third-party sites won't call to confirm. 2. After getting the Benz E, in a French town, the car was broken into at a public paid parking lot. We called the third-party site and were directed to contact Avis directly. After a 40-minute drive back to Avignon, we paid around EUR 250 for the damage and got a new Benz E. However, it made a constant creaky noise within 5 minutes of driving. Upon returning to Avis and consulting, they claimed the noise was due to brake pad friction and was normal due to hot weather. This persistent noise didn't make us feel safe, and we requested another car. Avis only had this creaky car available and insisted we take it. We didn't dare to drive it. 3. With no other options, we were eventually given a 5-seater Renault but still charged the Benz E price. Our total expenditure was EUR 1267 + EUR 250.
They kept insisting that I buy insurance, even though I remember already purchasing zero-deductible insurance on your website. They also mentioned my deductible was 1300 euros.
