Never choose Avis, terrible company

Reviewed: Thu, Jul 20, 2017
About AVIS: 2.0 /10
Poor service. When we returned the car, we showed them the penalty ticket and asked if anything needed to be done. They said there was no problem, but later they brought up the ticket again and charged a service fee without helping to resolve it. I've never seen such a terrible company.

Good service attitude, didn't have to wait long. However, I was very unhappy with the random car model change. Check my final comment for more details.

The contract wasn't in English, so we could only roughly understand it by looking at the prices. There were 4 of us, but they counted each of us as separate additions, so we ended up paying for insurance for 4 drivers. Overall, they didn’t explain things clearly.

The car had some passive damage without evidence, thankfully I bought full insurance. When returning the car, I filled out a report and explained the situation in English. The insurance covered it, so I didn't have to pay. The return process was very quick.

About AVIS: 6.0 /10
Picked up the car in Madrid; the originally booked Volkswagen Touran was replaced with a Fiat diesel car. I'm not sure if this was an upgrade. The diesel car is slower to accelerate. The pick-up location was decent. However, the drop-off in Granada was on a Sunday. It never occurred to me, nor did anyone inform me, that the store would be closed on Sundays. As a result, I couldn't find the drop-off location and there was no attendant. Fortunately, a very kind local helped me by calling the Madrid store to inquire about the drop-off details, then accompanied me to the designated parking area and showed me where to drop the keys into the box at the store entrance. Since they pre-charged me for a full tank of fuel at pick-up, I contacted the rental company's customer service multiple times via email. Luckily, when I returned to Shanghai, I saw that the bank only deducted the car rental fee.
