I was rear-ended and returned the car to the rental company. The staff had a very unpleasant attitude, which was uncalled for! I was the victim, and I didn't want the car to be damaged either! I paid for the initial repair costs myself, and then I swapped for another car, but had to return it at the airport. The city office told me that I could claim the repair receipt at the return location, but when I got to the airport, nobody explained anything. I almost missed my flight after trying to explain for 40 minutes. Their service and efficiency were truly disappointing. However, a Chinese girl in charge of cleaning cars helped translate and explain for us, and her attitude was much better than those at the front desk. Unfortunately, there were no Chinese-speaking staff or interpreters at all at the airport. Though we could communicate, many technical terms were hard to understand. This is clearly worse compared to other car rental companies.
Terrible car rental experience. Didn't get the car. Not recommended for users with children who need car seats. The whole trip was greatly affected by this. If you are comfortable with English, you can use the rental company as a search engine to roughly locate car rental locations, models, and prices, then directly contact the supplier for booking. This can save you the middleman costs, making it easier to handle issues and potentially cheaper. In summary, I do not recommend the rental company. Terrible experience, and I won't use it again.
Additionally, when lodging a complaint about an after-sales issue, their customer service was not proactive in handling the complaint. Regardless of the complaint's outcome, their communication skills and service attitude are far from those of other e-commerce platforms like JD.com or Ctrip.
I picked up the car in downtown Melbourne. The young man kept trying to upsell me to a hybrid Camry for nearly double the price. I told him I already drive a hybrid in my home country and that the Cruze would be fine. Despite that, he insisted on giving me the keys to experience it. Do I really seem that naive? The Cruze's condition was good, everything you need is there, and with just 40,000 km on the odometer, it still felt relatively new.
It was fairly easy to find in downtown Melbourne. The car was in the parking garage of a building. We drove it to our accommodation to pick up luggage. The car was big enough to fit 4 adults and 4 large suitcases.
