A few staff members displayed obvious discriminatory attitudes towards Chinese people. I rent cars in the US frequently, and this is the first time I've encountered such delays and refusal to assist. They even asked why we were visiting this city and why we needed a rental car. It made me very uncomfortable.
Took the AirTrain to the car rental area at JFK Airport, which was easy to find since all rental companies are located there. Alamo and National share the same office, but Alamo's signs are less noticeable. Arrived at JFK Airport at 8:30 PM local time and there was no line at the rental counter. Booked a Chrysler 200 but received a Toyota Camry. The car had about 20,000 km on it but was in good condition overall. Drove 2,400 km over 6 days without any issues. The elderly African American gentleman at the store did some upselling, mainly for vehicle upgrades and roadside assistance.
