They immediately tried to sell me upgrades, from vehicle models to toll fees; it made me very confused after a while. I booked a mid-size SUV, but she said I definitely needed a full-size one for convenience, etc. When I insisted on no upgrades, she stopped offering upgrades but did not revert to my original booking. I ended up paying over 500 extra dollars to upgrade to a 'standard-size SUV,' but these cars are almost the same size. It’s hard to distinguish which ones are 'mid-size' and which are 'standard.' I ended up paying almost double the original price (which was over 700 USD). Since I had printed my reservation, I noticed at pickup that the price I booked was not listed, just a rough estimation in RMB. I assumed the amount shown was the total I needed to pay. I repeatedly asked if I had already paid, and they told me they were not aware of my previous payments but that payment was necessary at pickup. They said I had only paid for the car itself, without any extras. It was only when I checked my bank account after picking up the car that I realized I had been charged extra. Looking back at the receipt, the model was marked as an 'upgrade.' I feel strongly deceived!
When we arrived at the store, it was midnight. One counter was open, and the queue was not too long. There were various car models available, and we chose the one we had reserved. The car was very new, having only driven 5300 miles.
Like: Easy check in , good advices Dislike: No uniforms of the staff, bad reception at the Jackson, Wyoming, office with no offer of personal help. But the driver of the shuttle in Jackson Hole was very friendly and lead us to the office in Jackson.
The Dollar branch at Denver Airport is a scam combined with robbery. Without my knowledge, they added three additional insurance services: RoadSafe, Supplemental Liability Insurance, and Personal Protection Plan, plus various taxes and fees totaling $1009.63 for 29 days! It was nearly $2000 more than my rental cost. I ended up spending over $10,000! The middle-aged man at the Dollar counter just checked my reservation, asked me to confirm on an electronic signature pad without explaining anything, and I signed. Then, he printed a long, narrow receipt. I took the contract and left without suspecting anything. Returning the car was also smooth, took just a few minutes.
Today, I checked my credit card statement and saw a $1009 charge from Dollar. I hurried to look at the contract and found they had added all these insurances.
Check Google's reviews for this branch; it only has 1.7 rating. I deeply regret using Dollar and will never use them again.
Also, the basic third-party liability insurance provided by the rental company is practically useless in the US, similar to basic liability insurance in China. You really need additional third-party insurance of $1,000,000 to cover any potential costs in case of an accident.
In addition to credit and debit cards, you can now pay for online car rentals with cryptocurrency! Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) are accepted. Curious about how long a Bitcoin transaction takes or how to pay with Bitcoin? Read our FAQs for more details.
