It took almost an hour to pick up the car, which was a bit long. They also tried to sell me a highway card, claiming some routes required it. But in reality, I saw that Portugal mostly has toll roads.
I rented a Volkswagen ID.3 but was given an Opel small SUV instead. Returning the electric car with just 5% battery left is very convenient. Luckily, the staff at the counter suggested I pay 20 euros for full insurance. The roads in Portugal make it easy to scratch the car, so I'm glad I opted for the damage waiver.
We waited 1.5 hours to collect our car in Lisbon. The Europcar pick-up office was extremely busy and there was not enough staff. We arrived well ahead of our scheduled pick-up time and it still took an unacceptable amount of time to finally receive the car. Having said this, the staff were trying their best in the circumstances and were friendly and helpful as much as possible.
