Avis could have been more flexible if the car that we chose is not available, better if they can give us a refund on the difference, but in my case, they won't even entertain us.
Avis service was mediocre. The reserved car model was almost unavailable, and I only got a car after strongly insisting and waiting for half an hour. When picking up and returning the car, make sure to take photos of the fuel gauge as evidence, as Avis tends to arbitrarily deduct fuel charges from the deposit.
The American rental company was not very reliable. During the rental period, I had to switch cars twice, which wasted a lot of time. The first car had a malfunction, so I replaced it. The second time, I received a parking ticket and found out the car's inspection had expired, so I had to replace it again.
The front desk staff in New York was a handsome young man. He was very nice. The car model I wanted was unavailable, so he upgraded me to a premium model for free. However, I felt it was a bit large and was hesitant. Just then, a small car returned. I asked to switch, and he immediately helped me change the booking without any fuss. He also reminded me to drive safely and informed me that half a tank of fuel was sufficient when returning the car. This red Kia Soul is really great to drive.
