The vehicle was pretty good, but the store charged a Credit/Debit Card Surcharge, which I didn't anticipate beforehand, resulting in an extra charge of 2.18 NZD.
When I picked up the car at the Auckland airport counter, they said that the model I needed (Highlander) was not available. They asked me to downgrade to a RAV4 or switch to a minivan.
After almost two hours of back and forth, they finally managed to get a Highlander for me, wasting a lot of time. For a big company like HERTZ, such issues are absolutely inexcusable.
They warmly welcome customers and carefully explain driving precautions, especially highlighting some specific road segments. They also clean the car in advance and wait for customers to arrive.
The service attitude was okay, but the car's tire treads were already quite worn. It is recommended to replace the tires to reduce the chance of a tire blowout during the rental period.
The service representative who helped us was an Indian girl with a rather unfriendly attitude. She wouldn't rent us a GPS or sell the promoted insurance and gas, claiming they were out of stock. It wasn't until a gentleman intervened that we found one. The final payment was 382.09 NZD, higher than the quoted 344.31 NZD, an increase of approximately 40 NZD. Due to time constraints, we didn't argue. On checking the account later, the actual charge was 422.89 NZD, and we couldn't figure out why. Communicating from afar seemed more trouble than it's worth, so we let it go as a loss. I won't use this company again. JUCY is much better. We rented from both companies on this trip, and the difference was clear. JUCY was enthusiastic and eager to help (we had a flat tire, and they sent someone out right away). Their prices matched the quote, and they were fair. I recommend JUCY for their reliability. While not as famous as Hertz, JUCY’s service is superb. Their cars have distinctive branding, making them easy to spot, and fellow renters help each other out.
Picking up and returning the car was very quick and convenient.
It would be great if a detailed return route was provided because I got lost near the airport due to unfamiliarity with the area.
