My impression is that the queue moves quickly, the staff provides detailed explanations, and the service is excellent. The car's cleanliness and maintenance are quite new, overall a very good experience.
Overall, it feels above average. I had already purchased full insurance, and my previous rental company didn't even ask me about insurance, they just handed me the keys. However, the staff at HERTZ still asked if I wanted to buy insurance, and I explained that I already had it. Thankfully, they didn't push it further. Also, I don't quite understand why, but the previous rental company only made a symbolic charge of one unit of local currency on my credit card, while HERTZ charged over 300. I'll have to check my statement later to see what's going on.
We booked a mid-sized sedan but ended up with a low-end car without a backup camera. The price difference is huge, but they didn't let us choose, just assigned it directly!
Due to traffic delays from Quebec to Montreal, I arrived at the Hertz rental company at 16:00, but the doors were locked. There was a sign indicating that the working hours on Saturday, May 21st were until 15:00.
I went back to Hertz the next morning (Sunday) at 8:30, and the counter staff informed me that my reservation was canceled because I did not pick up the car at the agreed time. I explained that I had fully prepaid for three days, and the reservation should still be valid within those three days, but they refused and told me to contact the rental platform for any issues. Frustrated, I had no choice but to go to AVIS and rent another SUV, paying again.
The service at the store was mediocre, and there were no clear signs at the pickup and drop-off points. There was no one to guide us at pickup, and the instructions were unclear. It took a quarter of an hour just to find the parking place. The drop-off location was even more ridiculous; Google Maps navigated us to a field. In the airport, Google Maps and the car's navigation system gave different directions, with the car's system leading us further away. We eventually found the Hertz parking lot by following Google Maps to another rental company's parking area and asking for directions. It's unclear why there were no signs. Being unfamiliar with the area, we were anxious and stressed while trying to find the location.
I rented an SUV Jeep Grand Cherokee, but they provided a Dodge Journey. Since I'm not very familiar with this model, I didn't realize these two vehicles are not on the same level; their prices differ greatly. The store is suspected of fraud.
