I'm absolutely furious. We booked a car through the rental platform and got the most comprehensive insurance beforehand. When we got there and wanted to add an extra driver, they required us to buy insurance for the driver. We had previously rented cars in the US and Australia, and it went smoothly. We consulted the rental platform, and they confirmed that we could simply add a driver without having to buy insurance, as we already had it for the car. However, the store staff disagreed. A very beautiful lady, but with a terrible attitude, argued with us for the whole morning. The rental company's customer service also called to help communicate. Finally, we decided not to add the driver. The staff agreed and simply crossed out the additional fee with a pen, without printing a new contract. Trusting Europeans to be honest, we didn't object. When we returned the car, we found out they never changed it in the computer system, and we still ended up with the insurance!
Arrived at noon to pick up the car, they said the reserved car was not available and it was still at Pisa Airport. They promised it would arrive by 3 PM, but at 3 PM it was still at Pisa Airport. I had no choice but to drive a manual small car to Pisa Airport to exchange for an automatic car, which was smaller than the reserved model. Filed a complaint afterward, now back home but still have not received a response regarding the complaint.
The pre-booked car (which was larger) was not available. There was only one car at the store, and due to time constraints, we were forced to take the smaller car on our trip, but were charged the rate for the more expensive, originally booked car. The rental company was very unprofessional and used various tricks to deceive customers. During pick-up, there were two noticeable scratches that the staff overlooked, which I had to point out before they were recorded. During drop-off, they took advantage of our inexperience, repeatedly saying everything was fine and that the inspection was complete without giving us any receipt. Later, they claimed we returned the car late (by one day) and tried to charge extra since we had no receipt. We directly filed a complaint with Budget after returning home and provided train tickets and accommodation receipts from the same day we returned the car to prove our point. Eventually, we got the undue charges refunded.
