The car was great, it was the counter service that was poor - actually, I never was serviced by the Dollar agent (he never showed up) but the Thrifty agents helped me!!!!

The contract was subtracted to Hertz/Proa Rent a car without our knowledge and without communication. This led to much time wasting at the airport since nobody had forewarned us of the change
The car was in a different bay and location of where I was told and the documentation given. This caused a big delay and made me go back to the terminal, which was not ideal as it was already late and my son is 4 years old. Apart from the pick up problems, the signage for drop off is insufficient and poor and was acknowledged by the staff member at drop off. I would like to know if Dollar are prepared to offer a full explanation and some offer of compensation.
Like: Great car for the price and the people at Dollar’s HQ were excellent. Hiring a car for the week didn’t cost much more than taxi transfers from the airport and saved us money on food shopping and other trips. Was sad to drop the brand new Polo back at the airport! Dislike: Googlemaps link to the hire meet up spot at the airport didn’t work and so it took a bit of a ramble around the airport car parking/ meeting points to find the transfer van which takes you to the car hire centre on the nearby industrial estate.
I upgraded and was glad that I did. The pick up location was hard to discern and luckily a very helpful taxi driver helped me to find it in the airport. More accurate and detailed instructions on where to pick the vehicle would have been helpful
Like: I was lucky to be the first in the queue (both pick-up and drop-off), so got a very quick, polite and efficient service. Dislike: I reserved a manual car, but got an automatic one which I never drove before. I don't speak Spanish, so did not understand well how to use it.
Fortunately they were able to exchange it for a manual car.
There is no way I would accept an automatic car as I was on my own, did a lot of driving and would feel unsafe to drive a car different from what I am used to.
The signage is too small and hidden. It's actually on the -1 floor of the car rental shop at Barcelona T4 airport, with a Hertz sign, making it hard to find. When asked, they said it’s Dollar. English communication was fine, but the Spanish accent is heavy, so you need to listen carefully. Overall, it was good. The car was nice and came with an English-speaking GPS.
We were up sold from a mid size to a larger car in Madrid. The car was good but too large to drive around the narrow streets of towns in southern Spain.
Car hire desk were very friendly although beware of the expected up-sell to a bigger car and/or additional insurance. There was very little information on where to go to collect the hire vehicle so I ended up calling Dollar direct who advised me where and when to wait for the transfer.

We struggle to get a car confirmed to be large enough to carry our luggage. This is in part due to the requirements of my disabled daughter.
Dollar "upgraded" the car, however in truth this was not an upgrade and we struggled with luggage space.
