I had scheduled to pick up the car at 2:30 PM, but the car rental company was hard to find. When I finally found it, they said the car wasn't ready and asked us to wait for 30 minutes. Having rented cars overseas for many years, I had never encountered this situation, so I thought it wouldn't take too long and agreed to wait. However, 30 minutes later, the staff member who was supposed to help us was chatting and smoking with his colleague at the entrance. I asked if the car was ready, and he said to wait a bit more, that he didn't know. We had plans to drive 300 kilometers to a popular hotel to catch the sunset, and without the car, we couldn't make it in time. I called the car rental customer service, and they actively tried to help, but the staff was indifferent and said there was nothing he could do. We finally got the car at 5:00 PM, but it wasn't the one we reserved. Instead, we received a large, old, and broken car (the window was broken). Driving on the highway with an open window caused discomfort in my left ear. By the time we reached the hotel, it was already dark. Our first day's itinerary was severely impacted! We missed the best sunset and pool party at a 3000 RMB hotel, causing significant losses and ruining our travel mood! Avoid this company!!!
They were incredibly meticulous about damages. There was a very small scratch on the front fender, and they documented it and reported it to the manager for a fee. I recorded a video when picking up the car, but I didn't notice that spot and skipped over it. I've rented from Enterprise, Budget, Avis, and Europcar before, and none of them inspected the car like this. It's obvious they're trying to rip off customers.
“Fine …
Still bummed I didn’t get the Fiat I had reserved”
About Rental Plus:7.0/10
I was looking forward renting a Fiat 500 that I booked , Instead I got a Ford .
The car was fine , but the right front tire kept telling me on the dashboard that was low on air so I had to keep putting air in it …. Was annoying .
Arrived at the counter at 8 AM, but was forced to wait until 11:30 AM to get a severely damaged van that could barely run. Finally left the lot at noon.
Very satisfied. They don't forcefully upsell additional services and provide friendly reminders and introductions, which we should understand and respect as part of their job. We received a vehicle of the same class, showing nearly 100,000 kilometers, with an old interior, but the driving performance was quite good except for insufficient power on slopes. We chose to return the car at Florence Airport, and objectively speaking, the service there was better — the staff were sincere and enthusiastic. Of course, all good and bad experiences are mutual, and I believe they also felt the same sincerity and enthusiasm from us.
1. Received a different car from the one I booked;
2. At return, they found scratches on the rear door and charged me 350 Euros—I am sure there were no scratches during my rental. Probably got scammed as I didn't check thoroughly in the poorly lit parking lot when picking up the car. I reported this to the rental platform, suspecting fraud, but got no feedback;
3. Nine months after returning the car, the rental company charged my credit card 105 Euros (35 Euros x 3), claiming these were 'service fees for notification of three fines as per the rental agreement.'—The rental agreement is dozens of pages long and in Italian. Such significant charges are hidden in the fine print and not highlighted. Shows the nature of this company;
4. The rental company informed me that the fines would be mailed to my address and I must pay them within certain days of receipt. However, the address they used, for which they charged the service fee, is nearly illegible and invalid. They never communicated or confirmed the address with me. The fines will definitely get lost, causing delays in payment and resulting in additional large bills. Typical southern Italian police behavior;
5. Each of these fines has its own issues, which I won't expand on, and range from 170 to 700 Euros each;
6. Besides, usually, the pre-authorization is lifted 1-2 months after car return, but it's been nine months, and they still have my credit card on hold.
I've reported this in detail to the rental platform. Surprisingly, the platform staff took the rental company's side immediately without further investigation or communication. Waiting to see how the platform handles this dishonest company. Will post on social media to warn others.
Conclusion: Choose major rental companies and book directly.
1. Received a different model than what was booked;
2. Upon returning the car, I was informed there was a scratch on the rear side door and was charged 350 Euros. I am certain there was no damage during my rental period; it must have been there when I picked up the car, but it was too dark in the parking lot to notice. Reported this to the rental platform, suspecting fraud, but received no follow-up;
3. Nine months after returning the car, I was charged 105 Euros (3 charges of 35 Euros each) on my credit card. They claimed it was for 'notification of three fines' according to the rental contract. The rental contract is several pages long and in Italian, with important charges buried in fine print, not highlighted or clearly communicated. This reflects poorly on the company's transparency;
4. The car rental company informed me that any fines would be mailed to my address and must be paid within a certain period. However, the address provided on the fine notification was almost illegible and incorrect. This address was used to levy their service fees without any confirmation from me, ensuring the fines would be lost in the mail, resulting in more fees and endless bills. Italian Southern Police involvement noted;
5. Each of the three fines has its own issues, not detailed here, with amounts ranging from 170 to 700 Euros;
6. Typically, pre-authorization on credit cards is released 1-2 months after returning the car, but my pre-authorization was still held by the rental company nine months later.
I have reported this issue in detail to the rental platform. Shockingly, the platform staff sided with the car rental company without further investigation or communication. Awaiting follow-up to see how they handle this dishonest company. Will post this on social media to warn others.
Conclusion: Go for a major car rental company, book directly.
The return location map and address information were incorrect, and the provided phone number was unreachable. It was an absolutely terrible experience.
Arrived at the counter, provided the order information and driving materials, and got the paperwork done quickly. They didn't ask you to buy their insurance. The service was excellent.
