Snow chains, which are legally required, were charged additionally. Even though I had confirmed there would be no cross-border fees, the store charged extra upon arrival.
Not great. It might be because I purchased full insurance? The car they gave me had dents and scratches, which were not noted in the contract when I took it. Maybe the company planned to claim insurance fraud when I returned it. I could have let that go, but the car was also dirty and hadn't been inspected at all. Then on the return day, the car showed 'Add ADBlue.' Seriously? This diesel car required me to add AdBlue solution, but the car was parked in a city center parking lot without any AdBlue available, so I couldn't drive it out. I had to call for assistance multiple times, including calls to their office, before finally getting through. After waiting an entire morning, someone finally came. Following discussions, I couldn't waste more time waiting because I needed to get to Rome. Eventually, they let me leave the keys and go. Sigh... This made me miss my early morning flight, wasting over 2000 RMB on a non-refundable ticket, and I had to spend another 1000+ RMB on a six-hour connecting train ride to Rome. I could have arrived in Rome at noon, but instead, I got there after 7 PM. Unbelievable. Staff with such attitudes should lose their jobs. They don't even check the car's condition before giving it to customers. I will never use this rental service again.
The rental store was deceptive. My bill at the store was over 1,200 euros, whereas I had already paid more than 500 euros online. I repeatedly confirmed that I had already purchased insurance and did not need additional coverage. The store staff, however, slyly insisted that the extra 700 euros was just a deposit and would be refunded if there were no issues. When returning the car, they claimed I had used the full insurance and signed the contract, so the order was closed and nothing could be done. This is not my first time renting a car in Italy, but it’s the first time I've encountered such a deceptive mandatory insurance practice. This is commercial fraud and I'm very upset, currently negotiating with the rental platform.
Both pick-up and drop-off very quick, car was clean and ready to go, staff was polite and helpful. Good service for good value.
