They always try to upsell you on renting a more expensive car. When that didn't work, they made me buy a full tank of gas. I felt embarrassed and bought it, which turned out to be a scam because you can't return the car with an empty tank. However, I'm used to being taken advantage of in Mexico.
I told them I had already paid 206 yuan on the car rental website and only needed to pay 115 yuan worth of Mexican pesos at the store, but the staff still charged me 1113 pesos for three days of car rental. They said this is the store policy, so I ended up paying over 200 yuan more. Very dissatisfied. It's better to go directly to the car rental company.
They tried to sell me insurance and asked for a tip. When I refused, they made me wait. In the end, they charged us extra for a spare tire. It's ridiculous. The rental order was for 658 but the actual charge was 800 plus an additional 250 dollars. In total, it cost us 2550 RMB. Hope they go out of business.
The car rental service was decent, but I have major issues with QEEQ. I had a bad experience on my first time using QEEQ to book a car. I had paid all the fees to QEEQ, but at pickup, the system couldn't find the one-way fee. After a lengthy discussion, QEEQ asked me to pay upfront, saying they would refund me after I return the car. It's been over a week now, and there's been no progress! Why should I have to pay this money? Shouldn't QEEQ cover it? It's not just me, my friend also booked a car, and when they went to pick it up, there were no cars available. We had to rent from another company, and QEEQ didn't refund the fees.
“MEX will try to force you into upselling additional car insurance even if you have already purchased”
About MEX:8.7/10
They tried to make me sign a paper that I would be have to pay for the $29,000 cost of the vehicle if anything happened to it that they saw no insurance purchased for this rental. When I refused they charged me $137 insurance fees. This $137 was more than 2x the cost of the insured rental. They did not have WiFi available so it was hard to debate the counter rep to see the fine print so they bullied me into getting the additional coverage. This started my vacation off poorly.
The service attitude was good, but the process took around 20 minutes, and the wait for the car was longer. According to the QEEQ contract, the car should have had a full tank of gas, but it was empty, and the fuel light was on.
The service of the Mex company was extremely poor. Initially, we booked a Nissan, but when we arrived, it wasn't available. They offered us a manual Volkswagen Gol instead. I insisted that they provide what we had originally booked. The staff member suggested giving him 20 dollars under the table, and he'd get us a better car, but I refused. After almost an hour and with my persistence and the protection of my US driver's license, we finally got the car we had booked. I want to remind everyone to stand up for your rights when traveling abroad. I thought, why should I fear anything with my US driver's license and Chinese passport? And if necessary, I could contact the embassy. These small third-world countries shouldn't be so arrogant; I've seen these tricks before in China. Always fight for your rights.
From the airport booth check-in to picking up the car at the main office took a total of 2 hours and 37 minutes. The shuttle speed was acceptable, but we were mainly delayed at the counter for the paperwork and car pickup process. During this time, many employees went home after work, and despite so many customers waiting in line, there was no action from the management (we couldn't even see any managers). The car rental system had issues: the rental contract was printed in a graphic mode that made the lines unclear and the text small and hard to read. The counter staff did not inform me whether the return location was the same as the pickup location, so I had to rely on Google Street View afterward. Later, when exchanging cars, I saw a sign at the entrance indicating to drive another hundred meters west. It's been a week since I returned the car, and I still haven't received the deposit refund. The second time I rented a car, I specifically asked the reception staff about this issue; she said the refund would be processed upon check-out, but in reality?
