1. The rental staff heavily promoted insurance, only mentioning the abbreviations, saying it was basic insurance. This made me think it was already included in the payment I made when booking, but after swiping my card, I realized it wasn't and ended up paying an extra $150. Later, they said it was because I wasn't a Florida resident and had to buy it. If this is true, the website should mention it, otherwise, the price displayed is misleading. It feels like a tactic to attract customers with low prices and then deceive them. 2. The rental staff also pushed for roadside assistance, scaring me by saying it would cost a lot if something like a flat tire happened, which made me buy it for $60. After having already spent an unexpected $150, I felt scammed and just wanted to end this ordeal quickly, so I unwillingly paid this fee too. 3. I was misled again when the staff said I couldn't pay tolls with cash when driving to Miami and had to buy a toll charge for over $50. However, I found out that it was indeed possible to pay tolls with cash during my journey. I also consulted with three locals, and while they weren't sure about the first issue, they confirmed that the second and third were unnecessary.
Was disappointed with the toll charge not explained to me was under the impression the charges came off my credit card as we used them as this is what our usual car rental company did. Instead we were charged £120 for 2 weeks we were only there 12 days. Not happy.
Like: Excellent comfortable car, worked perfectly for our family of five. Sat Nav was essential. Dislike: On arriving at the desk on time for our car, I was told that it wasn’t ready and they were waiting for a minivan to come in. Having prebooked the car and very tired from a trans Atlantic flight I was very surprised by this. We had to wait over 30 mins in the end.
Hello! I just spoke with Thrifty customer service, and they informed me to contact the platform customer service to explain the issue and follow up on resolving it. The problems are as follows, please address them promptly:
1. When picking up the car, the Thrifty counter staff recommended an upgrade, stating that the maximum additional fee would be $195.18 without mentioning any other additional charges. However, when returning the car today, the staff handed me a bill showing $349.07, which is $153.89 more than the original maximum fee mentioned. This is very unreasonable.
When I noticed the unclear charges today, I called Thrifty customer service, and they said the bill included an AAO item (which was not explained by the staff when picking up the car).
The actual situation was: The staff recommended upgrading from B to D and provided an estimated cost bill of $195.18 (the staff marked the prepaid fuel charge of $34.93 and the total estimated cost of $195.18 with a pen). I repeatedly asked if there would be any other charges, and the staff said no, $195.18 was the maximum and it would be lower when returning the car because the prepaid fuel charge would typically be less. So, the additional driver fee mentioned by Thrifty customer service is unreasonable, especially since I was the only driver. Why should we pay more than $100 for an additional driver when there wasn’t one?
2. About the toll fees: We spent four days on a Disney cruise, so it’s impossible to have incurred toll charges. I had mentioned this to the staff before, who assured us that tolls would be charged based on actual usage. It’s unreasonable to be charged for the entire period.
3. About the signing issue Thrifty mentioned: When signing, the staff was in a hurry (eager to leave or end their shift). They only pointed out where to sign without explaining the content. When I asked, he said it was just what he had previously explained.
4. What is the concession fee recovery? It increases along with the taxes under the initially quoted fees, which is also unreasonable. Please assist in resolving this.
5. Finally, my credit card was charged $549 in total. What is included in this amount? Is it $349.07 plus $199.93? Please investigate. Please confirm that the platform previously charged us over 2100 RMB for the car rental. This Thrifty rental fee is very confusing.
Overall, Thrifty's fees are extremely opaque, and the service is quite unsatisfactory, resembling a company with random charges. It is far from the car rental company you recommended in Los Angeles, which didn’t have ‘additional driver charges’ and even provided communication via WeChat. I even asked if there was a contact number to ask questions along the way, but they said there was nothing to ask about.
QEEQ forgot to help me with the insurance! I had to pay a high price at the counter for insurance and special airport fees and taxes. The rental company's counter staff were very patient.
The staff at the store was extremely terrible! When I picked up the car, first they told me that the model I booked was too small, and they tricked me into thinking the economy model only had two seats, so I upgraded. Later, I found out that the upgraded Nissan was exactly the same as the economy model I rented a few days ago! Secondly, they made me buy a toll pass, but I didn't need it at all! Thirdly, without consulting me, they bought a full tank of gas for me, knowing full well that I was only renting the car for one day and would never use a full tank! After preparing my receipt, the person hurriedly sent me off and called up the next person in line. I just regret not checking the receipt carefully at the time. It wasn't until I compared it with the receipt from a few days ago that I noticed the issue. This was the worst experience I've had renting a car in the U.S.! I used to trust them and hardly ever checked the receipts. Future renters, make sure to check everything carefully! There are so many traps in the U.S.!
Like: Staff were super friendly, especially at the car pick up desk. Ms. Julie and Ms. Barbara at the Orlando International Airport car pick up desk went above and beyond to help me out. Dislike: I had to exchange cars 3 times due to several problems, but finally got a nice car and was my problems were solved.
I don't know why, even though I took the full supplemental insurance, the staff at the rental office rudely pointed out that I had no insurance and forced me to sign a waiver agreement, making me anxious while driving these past few days.
I had a great experience with Thrifty car rental in Orlando INT Airport, Florida.
My car was in great condition and Alex was very helpful and understanding.
Will definite recommend to friends.
This company did not recognize my US driver's license. They also didn't accept the pictures of my domestic driver's license and international driver's license from my phone. As a result, I had no other choice but to rent their car last minute at a very high cost!
The counter staff member didn’t know how to run my credit card. I spent over a hour trying to get checked in. Finialy after an hour he said he didn’t have s car for me. There was over 40 people that checked in while I was there. No wonder they didn’t have a car for me. He said he could get me an upgrade at the same price but when s received the bill it was over $200.00 what my contract was quoted. I contacted EasyRentCars and they took good care of me and were able to make the charge match my original estimate. Very nice customer care.
Forced charges! Even though I clearly declined the liability insurance, they still added it to my bill! I'm now asking the customer service of the rental platform to help me resolve this! I won't rent from Thrifty again!! No integrity!!
“The GPS provided by the rental company is terrible. It tells you to turn left in 200 meters, then to”
About Thrifty:4.0/10
The counter staff at pickup just wanted to make money by adding all the charges together, totaling $303. I raised objections, but they just ignored me. I had to call the rental company for help, but the staff refused to talk on the phone and didn't allow me to take a picture of the receipt. I decided to pay first and then photograph the receipt. When asked about the charges, I said 'no', but they took it as 'yes'. The receipt amounted to over $200. After sending the receipt to the rental company in China, I found out there were three removable charges. When I asked the counter staff to amend it, they refused, saying it was past time. However, another male staff member was patient and explained everything in English, and adjusted the amount to $177 when I picked up the car. Hence, the counter staff at the airport is very deceptive!
