The car wasnt in the greatest shape. The pick up took inordinately long and had me visiting multiple desks! Also, I paid extra for a GPS system (that turned out to be inbuilt) in the car but had not been updated! It kept on misdirecting me and I had to use google maps on my phone
They added €130 onto total bill for fuel/refuelling cost which would be refunded if brought back full. Car was full but the return staff charged anyway as he ‘forgot’ to confirm that car was brought back full on electronic form. Only sorted because I pointed out the extra charge. It was obvious this ‘mistake’ happens a lot
El tiempo de espera casi 2 horas y falta vehículos de igual categoría, querían darme de categoría inferior pero me negué por lo que estuve esperando 45 min a que me limpiaran otro vehículo. Muy lentos en la tramitación.
A long waiting time for getting to the counter about 45minutes and the car cannot allow driver under 30 my Son 27 cannot drive then we need to change to a very high miles, searched, bad cleaning Opel Insigna but the cost is the same as my booking, ever had such bad conditions rental car before, will never use Hertz car rental in the future !
Ticket system at the desk had run out of paper leaving numerous customers confused about how to queue. Staff didn’t seem particularly interested in resolving the problem. Once being served, I was processed quickly and efficiently.
Hertz were very poor. When we arrived we were told that the car we booked was not available but we would be given an alternative. We waited over 90 minutes for a suitable car to find out it had been given to another customer. In the meantime we were offerred a much smaller car than we had booked (we booked a fullsize car (Alfa Romeo Julia or equivalent) as we are a family of 5), then were offered a small MPV which was in terrible condition-covered in dents and scratches, it looked as though someone had gone at it with a hammer!- the worst condition car I have ever been offered from a car rental. Finally, after much heated conversation we were given a large MPV (VW Touran) which had done over 100000 km. By then we had had enough and took it. Luckily it was fine and we had no mechanical problems.
While we were trying to sort this all out it seemed every customer had a problem with the cars they were given.
Be very wary of booking with Hertz! I will never use them again.
The staff at Hertz in Rome Airport were helpful, guiding and arranging a vehicle swap. Even though the originally reserved higher-class vehicle was not available, they provided us with a Peugeot 3008.
Aucune explication de la part de la dame au comptoir lors du retrait du véhicule et même remarque pour le personnel à la réception...
On se sent un peu seul avec eux...
“Will never use hertz again. Ever. Anywhere I travel.”
About Hertz:2.7/10
Staff at counter was very rude at drop off. Staff at pickup were dismissive and not helpful. Forced car on us we did not want or book. They tried to up sell us to get what we had originally booked. Horrible hertz.
The car pickup speed was reasonable, mainly because I was the first one there, and it took 15 minutes to complete the process. At first, they did recommend some additional insurance, but when I insisted on sticking with the order amount, they didn't push it. Italians have a relaxed approach, handling business while making phone calls, but overall, it was fine with no unpleasant experiences. If you're unlucky and there's a queue, the waiting time could be long.
The car had PLENTY of dings and scratches, many of which I had to point out when picking the car up. They don't have unlimited mileage on our car rental, and we only found out about this after we picked up the car. When we returned the car, we had to wait about 40 minutes in line, thankfully we got to the airport early. We were happy to pay the charges, but when we received the receipt and asked our service person, they kept giving us vague answers that didn't make sense. We then went into the manager's office who then proceeded to say that in Italy, there are taxes on taxes. Okay? What does that mean? He wouldn't go on to explain any more. Just beware of hidden charges at Hertz, Dollar and the rest of the fleet, just another typical car rental shop that sends you hidden charges upon return of a vehicle.
In addition to credit and debit cards, you can now pay for online car rentals with cryptocurrency! Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) are accepted. Curious about how long a Bitcoin transaction takes or how to pay with Bitcoin? Read our FAQs for more details.
