Without the user's consent or even asking, they intentionally added many unnecessary services, causing the cost to increase fourfold. After pointing this out, some were corrected but the cost was still double. Despite further communication and a verbal promise to waive the extra charges upon return, it was a lie. Among the added services was GPS, which I never actually received. They also upgraded to an automatic transmission, but the car was actually a manual.

Like: Quick and easy online reservation process. Provided a rental for reasonable price. Offered a slightly bigger car for no extra charges when they saw we had quite a few luggages. Offered upgrades for extra cost and was specific about differences in cost of options. Made sure we had all the information about our options to be able to make an informed decision. Tip!* Always get the super protection! You never know if someone causes damage to the car when it's parked. - a suggestion they made and it was worth it! Typical Italian trick. Since the weather was good, we just went along with it. The car was good, and I didn’t bother comparing the costs. I didn't want to affect my mood. We didn't drive into the city center, instead we headed to the Mediterranean coast and also visited the stunning Matera. Absolutely beautiful.
I was charged €70 for a second driver without being told it was extra- I would not have taken it at that price! An extra insurance was added that I did not ask for (€22). All in all I thought the priority was to add as many extra costs as possible “under the radar”!
Like: Polite Up-sell approach but accepted a No with no issues. Vehicle upgrade given at no extra cost. Dislike: Vehicle had damage on wheels that wasn’t listed on the itinerary. Whilst this was rectified before leaving the Airport, it was time spent that could have been avoided.

Spent about 130 minutes in the car pick up process. It was just too long and very poorly organised by Hertz. Yes, it was busy to collect (Saturday morning), but they should have staffed accordingly.
