Alamo should be a cost-effective car rental company. This time it seemed like there were more people in line at Alamo compared to other companies. It was supposed to be a Ford Explorer or similar vehicle, but we got a Ford Edge instead. Although it seemed a bit smaller, it was still fine. It was a new car and more than enough for two adults and a child. Picking up and returning the car was very convenient, right across from the Calgary airport terminal.

Picking up the car at Calgary Airport was very convenient, with signs guiding you all the way. The pickup location is very close to the airport exit. The Alamo staff were very nice, explained some details, and offered a few insurance options. You can buy them on the spot if needed; they aren't expensive, and there’s no problem if you don't buy them. Then we went to pick up the car. There were several car options to choose from, which was amazing.

There were various sales pitches and price increases. We booked a Cadillac but they insisted on giving us an Infiniti. Initially, it was $200, but I insisted on not taking it and they reduced it to $150. In the end, we were in a hurry and just accepted it. The Alamo in Calgary is very good. When I arrived it was already early morning, but the only staff member was still very friendly and didn't try to upsell anything. This time I finally rented a Grand Cherokee and wasn't switched to any other model. The car had only 4000 km on it, almost new. It accompanied me through snow mountains and grasslands on my trips to Banff, Jasper, and Canmore. Perfect.

Due to airport issues, the car rental company was closed and had insufficient inventory. I didn't want to wait indefinitely without results. The SUV I reserved was unavailable, so I had to switch to a Kia Soul. They told me the price was the same, but it's obviously not! They didn't refund me the difference.

The staff at the Calgary airport counter kept pushing for an upgrade. When I refused, they looked visibly displeased. While I was picking up the car, one of them sarcastically told a colleague, 'I suggested they upgrade, but they didn't want to. I really don't like this car.' The colleague responded with equal disdain, 'I don't like it either.' Additionally, during the return, I inspected the car with the staff and reminded him that I had rented a GPS and placed it on the steering wheel. He said everything was fine and didn’t verify the charges with me; he just asked if I was paying with a credit card (which was already authorized during pickup). He confirmed there were no issues with the car, so I agreed to the payment immediately. To my surprise, I later found an 'equipment replacement' charge on the receipt after I reached the boarding gate. I reported it to the rental car customer service right away, but Alamo never responded. When I called Alamo's customer service today, they said the GPS was missing and kept telling me they would escalate my issue. It's been two weeks now. Do I need to record the entire return process to protect myself? How can they simply decide the GPS is missing? The inspection staff charged me for it immediately. Are they taking advantage of foreign travelers? The rental contract included airport construction fees and taxes, but these were also overcharged ... what a hassle.

On the day of pickup, I found out the fuel gauge was below F when I was leaving the gate. I immediately complained to the staff at the gate, but they said the tank was full. Since it was my first time renting a car, I believed them, thinking there was a problem with the gauge. Driving from Calgary to Banff, a distance of over a hundred kilometers, I had to add 18.452 liters of fuel. From Banff to Jasper, a distance of over three hundred kilometers, I only needed 20.797 liters. Just an additional 2.345 liters could cover 200 kilometers. I only drove a total of 1115 kilometers during the entire trip. Can ZuZuChe provide an explanation?

Booked through QEEQ platform, applied for a translation in advance, and bought full insurance. At the counter, they only charged a 1-dollar deposit. Reserved a Toyota Corolla, but it wasn't available at pickup. The staff casually pointed to a nearby Hyundai Venue, which was new, and there was no extra charge, so we took it. Full tank on pickup and return. Noticed a scratch on the right door at pickup, took photos according to the guidelines. Return was smooth with clear signage. Rented for 3 days to visit Banff; couldn't make it to Jasper due to the wildfire.
