The rental company employees were suspected of using deceptive tactics to sell additional insurance. Also, the parking lot at the Toronto Island airport dropoff location had no access card, making it impossible to enter. During non-business hours, self-service returns were not available, causing significant delays in returning the car.
Overall, it's good, but the explanation of additional charges was not detailed enough. I only wanted to add an extra driver this time, but when handling it on site, an additional fee was added without detailed written explanation, just a brief verbal mention. Upon careful review, I found that I could not cancel it by phone, which I believe is somewhat unreasonable.
The waiting time was too long, taking up to an hour in line. When finally attended to, the staff was very unprofessional, taking half an hour to complete the process. They also changed my originally reserved Highlander (classified as a Large SUV by the rental company) to a Chevrolet Equinox, which is at least one size category smaller. After negotiating with another staff member, they finally switched it to a Nissan Pathfinder, but I had to wait another half hour to get the car. From standing in line to getting the car, it took over two hours and multiple negotiations. The experience was very poor. However, the car was in good condition, having been driven only 10,000 kilometers when I picked it up.
Overall, it feels above average. I had already purchased full insurance, and my previous rental company didn't even ask me about insurance, they just handed me the keys. However, the staff at HERTZ still asked if I wanted to buy insurance, and I explained that I already had it. Thankfully, they didn't push it further. Also, I don't quite understand why, but the previous rental company only made a symbolic charge of one unit of local currency on my credit card, while HERTZ charged over 300. I'll have to check my statement later to see what's going on.
The staff at the front desk were nice when we picked up the car. The service was excellent. Returning the car was also simple. The staff in the parking lot checked for issues and confirmed the gas tank was full. They printed the receipt and we were able to leave.
QEEQ was great! It was an enjoyable car rental experience abroad, except for the incorrect return location on the map instructions at Toronto Pearson International Airport. Everything else was fine!
Overall service was good, but they downgraded my car for no reason. I booked a Dodge Durango but got a Dodge Caravan instead, which has less power and luggage space.
Like: Hertz gave me a better car than anticipated, fast and easy check-in so that getting the car took less than 10 minutes. Returning the car was incredibly fast because the Hertz Man was standing ready to receive my car in the driveway and within a minute checked-in my car and gave me my receipt. Very fast and efficient rental system! Thank you Hertz!
Hertz is located at the very end of the car rental building, which requires quite a bit of walking. Since I arrived late, there were hardly any people in line at the regular counters. Therefore, there wasn't much difference in service between the regular counters and the Hertz Gold kiosk.
Because they didn’t have the car model I initially selected, and the staff member was slow in handling the request. I ended up wasting more than an hour waiting for them to transfer a car from another location. They also insisted I didn’t have full insurance, so I had to buy it again just in case. Damn Hertz.
We refueled before returning the car, but the gas station was 4 kilometers away from the return point. By the time we got there, the fuel gauge was just a bit short of full. The staff insisted on charging us 26 CAD or asked us to refuel again. Very dissatisfied, this never happened in Europe.
I booked a RAV4, but was given a JEEP at pickup. They mentioned that it wasn't necessary to return the car with a full tank because their fuel prices were lower than the market rate, and any difference would be charged based on the remaining fuel. However, I returned the car with half a tank, but was charged for a full tank.
