The Hertz - Frankfurt Airport car rental location is in terminal

You can walk to the counter of Hertz - Frankfurt Airport car rental.

There are two Hertz rental desks at Frankfurt Airport, one in Terminal 1 (Hall A), in the Airport City Mall Area, and one level above the train station. The other is in Terminal 2 (Hall D) at the car rental center on the arrivals level. Hertz rental desks are easily located within each terminal. If you wish to travel between terminals, you can take the yellow shuttle service between terminals, with stops at the front of each building. It leaves every 10 minutes and connects Terminal 1 to Terminal 2.

Drop-off Instructions

Cars can be returned to both T1 and T2.Please follow the "Car Rental Return" sign near the airport and follow the instructions to the parking lot of the airport. After finding the Hertz parking space and returning the car, walk back to the airport. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the branch.

I told the staff that I had to go to Switzerland and paid Euro 35 for travelling accross the border. I understood that part and paid. I was told the car had most likely the required sticker for going across the border, which it did not have and I paid Euro 40 at the border. When I returned the car I was told I had to pay an addional 52 Euro border fees, which was all in all very disappointing as my currency is South African Rands which is x 20 in other words I had to pay R 1840 in addion which is a lot for me !

Booked an automatic BMW sedan for 400+ euros, they insisted it was unavailable and gave me a terrible Ford car, a manual without navigation. Then they offered a tiny Citroen automatic also without navigation. I had no choice but to switch to a Mercedes C180 which cost an additional 30 euros per day. After ten days, they charged another 100+ euros saying it was tax. In the end, I spent over 800 euros. What a rip-off!

This was the worst car rental experience I've ever had. Initially, we planned to pick up and return the car at the airport, but we returned it a day early at the Frankfurt train station. We specifically asked at the counter if there would be any extra charges and if the rental fee would change. I was okay with paying a fee for returning the car at a different location. The frustrating thing was the staff at the Frankfurt train station assured us that if we returned the car a day early, they would refund one day’s rental fee to our credit card. We happily returned the car, but after we got back home, we received a bill showing an additional charge of about eleven hundred yuan for five days of rental. We tried repeatedly to communicate and appeal with Zuzuche to no avail; they required evidence of our conversation with the employee at the Frankfurt Central train station. It's ridiculous, how are we supposed to provide that after returning home??? This was an extremely frustrating car rental experience.

The service at the Frankfurt Airport branch in Germany was just average. When picking up the car, a hold was placed for a full tank of fuel. I booked a Benz C but received a Jaguar X20d diesel car instead. The car felt a bit small, especially the trunk, but the diesel engine did reduce travel costs. I was a bit late returning the car, having mistakenly entered the underground parking and returning it just over ten minutes late. I was charged an extra day because I picked up the car slightly early, despite confirming with the staff that I could wait until 9 AM to collect it. They agreed, but still charged according to the scheduled time. During the pickup, I noticed minor paint scratches and discussed them with the staff, so the actual pickup time was around 9:30 AM, but I didn't ask them to reprint the pickup contract. In the end, I had to negotiate with the manager at the branch, explaining the situation, and they ended up charging me a little under 15 Euros. Typical Germans, very rigid! While they weren't wrong and had a strong sense of contract, their service awareness was practically non-existent!

When we requested a driver change, they said it was not possible and instead suggested adding a driver. They didn't inform us that adding a driver would incur a fee, nor did they have us sign any documents. Halfway through, we received a bank deduction SMS. Calling the store yielded no response, and even when we got to the store in Fussen, the staff couldn't reach the Frankfurt store via internal phone or email. Rent-A-Car tried to help us contact them throughout but to no avail. Finally, when we returned the car, we argued our case and they didn't charge us the fee. However, this made us anxious throughout the trip, affecting our travel experience.

I scheduled the pickup time for 8 AM. I arrived a bit early and had to wait for a while. When it was my turn, I found out that the Mercedes E-Class I booked was not available, so I had to wait another half hour. In the end, they gave me a CLS350D with only 17 kilometers on it. Awesome! We were attended by a young man with an Asian face. Although there was a bit of a language barrier, his enthusiasm and responsibility left us very satisfied. Returning the car was very smooth. Hertz's overall service was terrible. We had to wait in line for more than half an hour at Frankfurt Airport to pick up the car, only to find out that their store's computer system and POS machine were both down. They said they needed to do a pre-authorization over the phone. After showing them three cards, they finally said it was successful. However, we received bank messages showing pre-authorization on all three cards. They provided incorrect parking information, making us search for the car for quite some time, and eventually, we got help from staff from another rental company to find the car on an upper level. When returning the car at the Frankfurt city center location, I requested a receipt and was told to come back the next day. When I went the next day, they said they would check immediately and to come back in 20 minutes. After waiting 20 minutes and returning, the counter staff had already left. A neighboring rental company employee said he received an emergency call and had to leave. We had to go back a third day and were presented with a bill over 600 euros higher than our booking. When we discussed the incorrect charges with the staff, they told us that they billed according to the computer records and advised us to call customer service. We had to fly back to our home country that day, so we could only handle the issue after returning. Overall, this was a terrible car rental experience.

The process was quite simple. They only asked if I was sure about purchasing insurance. Seeing that we had a lot of luggage, they suggested upgrading to an SUV for an extra 25 euros per day. We got a Volvo XC90 with a navigation system, which was incredibly helpful. Otherwise, it would’ve been difficult to access Google Maps with local data, and Baidu Maps isn’t very useful here. Make sure to bring your domestic driver’s license and its translation; otherwise, they won't include it in the record. I forgot mine and almost had a serious issue, but fortunately, someone else had theirs.

Arriving in Frankfurt full of enthusiasm, I had to walk quite a distance to collect the car, which was a C4 Cactus with a 1.2L gasoline automatic transmission. I had to find it myself in the parking basement. The car had only 8900KM but felt old and small. Upon inspection, I found damage on the side mirrors and hood, suggesting I was being scammed. I immediately reported it and got a yellow tag for the damage. Driving on the German autobahn was a disaster, as the car roared at full throttle for thousands of kilometers over 21 days and couldn't easily overtake other vehicles. It felt like a gardening vehicle suited for an old Frenchman in the countryside. The 1.2L engine lacked torque, making it impossible to climb even small slopes in parking garages. I nearly hit cars multiple times when the car rolled back during refueling. Thankfully, with 20 years of driving experience, I used the handbrake technique to manage. Choosing Frankfurt as an entry point turned out to be a mistake. The rear windows couldn't open, making it very unsafe, especially for female drivers. This car rental was the worst part of our one-month European trip, despite the beautiful scenery and nice hotels. Avoid believing the big companies' promises and free upgrades; Hertz gave me the worst car, and using QEEQ was just a waste of time and money.

There was no 7-seater Mercedes van at the Hertz location in Frankfurt Airport, they gave me a Ford instead. When I wanted to switch, the staff said it was the only option, and it was diesel. Very frustrating. The staff was enthusiastic, but it felt fake. They pushed for full insurance, about 40 euros per day. When I went to pick up the car, the man there was really irresponsible, just reading an e-book and not helping me find a child seat. When I found out there was no child seat in the car, I went back to him and he finally got one for me. He asked if I wanted a booster seat, and I thought, I paid an extra 55 euros and this is what I get? In the end, I chose a child seat for ages 3-12 (not an ISOFIX one, just secured with a seatbelt).

Complaint about Hertz overcharging and downgrading the car model: 1. The rental cost on Zuzuche was 238 euros, including car rental, one-way fee, and taxes. However, the actual charges were: car rental 114.72 euros, one-way fee 95.28 euros, and taxes 96.91 euros, totaling 307.01 euros. This is significantly different from the price on the Zuzuche website. 2. Insurance: The Hertz counter staff only asked if I wanted to add super cover but did not explain the insurance costs and coverage. The final price included super cover of 203.34 euros and an additional personal insurance of 90.72 euros. I strongly complain about the forced purchase of personal insurance without any explanation. 3. Car model downgrade: Strong protest against Hertz for not respecting the reservation of a Volvo V40 or similar models like BMW X1 and Volkswagen Golf, and giving a Ford Fiesta instead. I have rented multiple times with Zuzuche, and this is the first time encountering a situation where the expected cost was 1799 RMB, but I ended up with a downgraded car and had to pay 606.95 euros (though I agreed to add the super cover). I request Zuzuche to resolve this issue, thank you!

Once asked if you bought full insurance, they won't recommend it again. I walked from the long-distance train station to terminal 1 to pick up the car. The route is a bit long, but there are many signs. If you plan to go to another country, be sure to mention it in advance. It should be noted on the receipt and the fee charged. The engine failed to start twice: The first time was the day after renting the car, in the parking garage of the exhibition hall, it would not start. I called, but both breakdown numbers on the car key were unreachable and automatically disconnected! I tried the phone number on the rental platform, and after several transfers and explaining the situation, we waited for about an hour for assistance. During this time, I kept trying to start the car. Shortly after the phone contact, it miraculously started. Due to our tight schedule, returning to the airport to exchange cars was not an option, so we agreed that if it happened again, we would stop using the car. Miraculously, after four days, on the last day, while on our way to the airport, we stopped at a gas station to fill up the tank before return. After refueling, the car wouldn't start again! Tried all the phone numbers on the key and the rental company number, but none worked. The rental platform's phone said they couldn't help and asked us to call the breakdown number. Rushing to catch a flight, after about forty minutes of attempting to start it, it worked again! The car had only around 7,000 kilometers and was a 2018 model, so it should have been in good condition, but it was definitely a problematic car! Originally rented a Volvo V40, but was told at pickup that it was upgraded to a Jeep Wrangler. I thought I was lucky, but later felt it was a trap! It was a scary experience!

Firstly, the vehicle categorization is unreasonable. I rented a compact car but was given a Jeep. They told me it falls under the same category as a compact car. Driving a Jeep on the German highway is slow and fuel-inefficient, with a consumption of 17 liters per 100 kilometers, and I had to stay in the slow lane with trucks! Also, I was driving alone and didn't need such a large vehicle, which was also difficult to park in the city! Additionally, Thrifty provided a Hertz car. After picking it up in Frankfurt and driving to my company in a smaller city, I couldn't exchange it at a local Hertz office. After a week of inconvenience, I had to drive over 100 kilometers back to Frankfurt to switch the car! I reserved a Mercedes E-Class, but when I arrived in Frankfurt, they gave me a Jeep Wrangler! After refusing it, they replaced it with an XC90. At the time, I thought it was an XC60 and didn't pay much attention. Only when I got the car did I realize, and ended up spending over 200 euros in three days! Hertz in Europe is honestly mediocre. A few days ago in Switzerland, I used Europcar, and it was much better.

I arrived earlier than my scheduled pick-up time. First, I was told my reserved car would be available at 8 PM. They tried to sell me insurance, which I declined. Then, they said I would need to wait four hours for my car. They suggested I rent a Nissan Qashqai for an additional 60 euros per day, which I also declined. They then told me my reserved Volvo V40 was not available and suggested we would sort it out later. After multiple refusals and hesitations to pay extra, I left, hearing mocking laughter behind me. The person handling my case was a woman possibly named Stian. At 8 PM, when I returned, she was not present at the counter, and other staff refused to assist me, saying she had blocked my rental information. Two men with very unfriendly attitudes informed me about this. The woman showed up late, saying it was my fault and I shouldn't blame her. She then gave me a Ford Fiesta, a much smaller car than the Volvo V40 I had booked, which should be comparable to at least a VW Golf or a Ford Focus. Their attitude was terrible and mocking.

1. The flight arrived early and there was no delay with the luggage. We arrived at the Hertz counter 40 minutes earlier than the scheduled pickup time, but the staff refused to process the pickup. If we use the car for only three hours on the last day but still have to pay for a full day, why can't we pick it up early? 2. We didn't get the car because we only had an international driver's license without the original license. I've rented long term from Hertz's official website for the past four years with just an international driver's license for trips over four weeks each time. This year, renting through Zuzuche, the counter refused to give us the car and even denied a refund. Moving forward, we will blacklist both your company and Hertz.

They force you to buy additional insurance, otherwise they won't allow you to cross the border. The crossing fee is only 25 EUR, but the insurance costs 66 EUR plus tax, which altogether cost an extra 120 EUR. I booked a C-class but got an X1 instead, which is clearly not the same class in China. Maybe in Germany, X1 has the same price as C-class. I've had a good impression of Hertz before, but this experience was very disappointing. The staff refused to mediate over the phone with the booking agency. It was really frustrating. If I weren't in a hurry, I would've canceled the rental. Do not choose this company.

The reserved Galaxy model was not available, and the offered Smax didn't have enough space for six people. We had to consider upgrading to a Ford Tourneo by paying an extra fee. Initially, we were told verbally that it would cost about 13 euros per day extra. After agreeing to the upgrade, I had to go see the actual car myself, which was a hassle since the Tourneo isn't available in our country, so I didn't know what to expect. After agreeing to the upgrade, the paperwork showed an additional 16 euros per day, plus a 23.5% service fee and a 19% tax, which amounted to almost 25 euros per day extra. I felt somewhat cheated but had to accept due to time constraints. Additionally, regarding the toll fees for Austria and Switzerland, I was charged 25 euros. Upon reaching the border, I cautiously asked the gas station staff, and they didn't recognize the bill I had. I ended up having to buy toll fees separately for over 40 euros. Upon returning the car at the end of our trip, I asked the Hertz counter and was told that the CROSS BORDER FEE was for taking the car across borders, and toll fees still needed to be paid separately by me. Due to time constraints, I couldn't argue further. This wasn't just a money issue; if I hadn't been cautious and asked at the border, I might have faced fines or legal issues for not having the required toll stickers on the car windshield.

When we arrived in Frankfurt, the Mercedes 8-seater we reserved was unavailable, and they insisted on giving us a Ford 7-seater instead. We had eight people, how could we all fit? We went back to negotiate with the lady at the counter. She insisted that only the 7-seater was available. The two cars are of different sizes and not even in the same group. She was clearly lying, saying that the rest were all 9-seaters that required extra payment to upgrade. We argued that this was Hertz's problem and they needed to resolve it. She eventually said she would try to get a car from a nearby location but couldn't guarantee it. She asked us to wait on a nearby sofa, but we insisted on waiting at the counter. In less than a minute, she rummaged around and suddenly found the 8-seater Mercedes right next to the Ford. This is blatant lying. If not for the communication between Zuzuche and Hertz, I would have sent an email to complain. I have Hertz's gold card and this is the kind of deceptive service I get!
